Anatomical Balloon Dog

Artist Statement:
This piece started with a simple, ridiculous question: What would the inside of a balloon dog actually look like?
The result is Anatomical Balloon Dog—a tongue-in-cheek “medical” illustration of one of my most well-known characters. It’s drawn like those old anatomy diagrams you’d find in dusty biology textbooks, except instead of a real animal, it’s a shiny, twisty party balloon pretending to be a dog… complete with muscles, tendons, and scientific labels (some accurate, some definitely not).
Originally, this whole balloon dog idea came about as a bit of a parody of Jeff Koons—you know, the guy whose giant balloon dog sculpture sold for millions. My take was more playful, more rebellious, and definitely more grounded (sometimes literally—mine poop). Over time, though, these dogs became their own thing. I started modeling their personalities after my actual pets: weird, funny, totally chaotic—but full of joy.
This print is a mix of curiosity, satire, and just plain fun. It doesn’t take itself seriously, but it’s still made with care. It’s printed with precision, and the vintage paper tone gives it that weird museum-vibes-meets-modern-pop-art feeling.
If you’ve ever looked at a balloon dog and wondered what makes it tick… well, here you go.
