Breaking Free Dunny – 8″ Resin

Artist Statement:
Breaking Free is about that feeling we’ve all had—when you just want to scream, or run, or finally say something that’s been sitting in your chest for way too long. It’s about trying to be yourself in a world that constantly tells you to be something else.
This piece was made in collaboration with the amazing folks at Kidrobot, and it uses their iconic Dunny shape as a starting point. The idea was simple: what if someone was literally trying to break out from under the surface? To push back against all the pressure and expectations and masks we’re told to wear? That’s what this is—a frozen moment of someone emerging as who they really are.
I didn’t want it to be slick or complicated. I wanted it to feel raw. Like something universal. The kind of internal tug-of-war where one part of you wants to fit in, but another part of you is yelling, “Let me out!”
I made this for people who’ve felt different. Who feel like there’s a version of themselves inside that they can’t always show. That includes me—especially growing up and even now, as an artist. We don’t always get the space to be our full selves, so I wanted this sculpture to be a kind of shout of encouragement: You’re not alone, and you can break free too.
It’s cast in solid resin, white to keep it clean and minimalist—because the emotion should do the talking. Nothing flashy. Just honest. And yeah, it’s a Dunny, but like you’ve never seen it before.
This is for anyone who’s felt stuck. Or silenced. Or boxed in. This is what it looks like when you start to fight your way out. Available in white, silver as well as a few custom editions with crackling paint etc.
