Artist Statement:

This is Malevolence Beneath—a series of four prints based on my original acrylic paintings. These pieces dig into the weird tension between the characters we loved as kids and how we see them now, as adults.

When we’re young, these cartoon icons are fun, innocent, and perfect. But as we grow up, we start noticing the cracks—not just in them, but in everything they represent. This collection is my way of exploring that shift.

Each piece has a familiar face—characters from your childhood—but stripped of color and sugarcoating. The black-and-white palette gives it that early animation feel, but also makes things a little more serious, more raw. Then there’s the yellow slash across the eyes. That’s not just for drama—it’s about censorship, danger, and the stuff we weren’t meant to see as kids. Now that we’re older, we do see it.

They’re still recognisable, but something’s off. That’s intentional. These prints aren’t meant to ruin your childhood, but to reflect how growing up can change the way we view everything—even the things we once thought were perfect.

Each artwork in this series is a hand-embellished giclée on canvas, which gives them a bit of texture and uniqueness. They’re all signed, numbered, and limited to just 95 editions each. Whether you hang one or all four, they’re guaranteed to spark conversation—and maybe mess with your nostalgia a bit.
